Why did I create Practically Perfect Parties Online?

Is cancelling a child’s special party worse for the parents? How the world’s favourite Nanny inspired me to make things better.

“When the world turns upside down, the best thing to do is turn right along with it” – Mary Poppins

Are you feeling a bit sad that your child’s birthday party has been cancelled after all your Pinterest
searching and planning? Do you feel a bit guilty that you are feeling sad because let’s face it, there
are plenty more things to be concerned about right now?

These are the thoughts that occurred to me as I saw post after post about people having to cancel
special events in the first couple of weeks of lockdown in the UK.

I know that when my two boys were younger I used to love planning cakes and little touches for
their birthdays. For many parents or carers it is all part of the excitement of an impending
celebration isn’t it?

Just before the life changing announcements were made in March, I did an appearance at a nursing
home for young disabled adults especially for the 30th birthday of a lovely chap who is mad about
Mary Poppins. His Dad and all the staff went to so much trouble to prepare a magical party space
with beautiful attention to detail. Everybody dressed up and his Dad even made all the cakes!

So now that we are facing an uncertain period of continued time apart, I wanted to provide an
opportunity for families to enjoy their parties still as well as giving parents and carers the feeling that
they have some kind of control and input into party preparation!
Which is why as I created PRACTICALLY PERFECT PARTIES ONLINE I also conjured the idea of the Practically Perfect Party Pack…a downloadable pack containing printables, crafty ideas and easy to make tea party food to give you a feeling of ownership of your child or special person’s party.

All the party guests will get access to the pack so that you can decide between you which things you want to make or prepare…as you all get ready in your individual houses to meet Mary Poppins when she ZOOMS into your homes.

All the ideas only require the kind of things that you will probably have at home anyway if you have
young children and the recipe tips won’t require unessential trips to specialist stores!

I hope that in offering this extra touch as part of my new VIRTUALLY MARY packages, that we will all feel a little closer to each other and bring a bit of normal party planning excitement to our new look world….

Dear Parents, Carers & Party Hosts, Mary here, creating my practically perfect party pack was great fun! I wanted to create something that you can prepare in your own home, to so that you and your children feel more connected. Using my party pack ideas means you can create something that doesn't require a special shopping trip...instead you can focus on recycling something you already have. Finally, I hope that the activities provide your child/children with an opportunity to enjoy being guided by Mary Poppins and take some kind of control of their own thing. However, if that feels like too much for them to deal with, they can help you (parents, carers, party hosts) by being your ‘little assistant’ instead! Either way a joyful activity and totally stress free. Spit Spot!
